This web site has been created to try and help pilots through what can sometimes be a slow part of their flying. It's the result of years of frustration from many pilots who have found that their progression, once they have gone Solo, seems to slow down, if not stop altogether! This, along with the usual attention from the duty flying instructor no longer being as demanding as it used to be, can sometimes make you feel disillusioned with the sport. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix to achieving your Silver. Lots of things will affect how quickly your progression will be; the weather can be a major problem in this country, as can the availability of a suitable plane, but ultimately it comes down to time spent in the air. Now, I know this sounds obvious; it's not meant to be the missing link where flying is concerned, it's just the more regular flying you do, the less you forget and therefore the quicker you progress! No one is going to be able to do your flying for you, and there is no text that you can read that will make you a better pilot over night, (trust me, I've tried). So this site has been developed because a lot of the pilots I used to see around the airfield have given up, they felt abandoned because they were unsure of the best way to continue. Happy it seemed, to stand around and moan on the airfield about everything Gliding. My hopes for this site and the "Solo 2 Silver" project are to point you in the right direction. It will be here to arrange lectures, on any subjects that you feel necessary and to put you in contact with more experienced pilots who are willing to help you advance in the sport of Gliding. As everyone is giving their time free of charge, remember that if someone takes you on a cross country flight to Norfolk or explains a foolproof way of centering on a thermal, it might be wise to show your appreciation by making them a cup of tea or something. At present, these are a few things that this site aims to provide,
But if there is anything that you would like the club to arrange that could be helpful for pre Silver pilots, or if you have any comments about this site, either use the Feedback button to send me an email or alternatively speak to someone at the club. |
